The Fear of the Lord and the Worship of the Lord
Reverence is the older sister of worship. Where reverence is absent, our songs will eventually thin out.
The people who worship God most freely are almost always the people who fear Him most truly. There is a holy weight to their gladness. Their joy is not shallow because their view of God is not small.
The fear of the Lord is not the fear of a stranger. It is the trembling of a child before a Father whose greatness is unmatched and whose kindness is unbroken. This is the soil in which real worship grows.
When we lose reverence, our worship gains volume and loses substance. The remedy is not more energy. It is a fresh sight of God.
